Sanding and Refinishing Hardwood Floors
Every day foot traffic and use of your wood floors can take its toll. Over time hardwood floors can lose their gleam and shine and develop nicks, scuffs and scratches. Reilly Flooring can work quickly and efficiently to refinish your floors to remove those imperfections and restore those floors to look as good as new. Refinishing requires special equipment and a lot of patience. Reilly Flooring is an expert in both. Most sanding and refinishing jobs can be completed in a day or two, depending on the size of the job and the protective finish that is chosen.
So whether you:
So whether you:
- Have floors that are completely worn and have deep scratches; or
- Have finally decided to pull up that carpet and refinish the hardwood floors underneath; or
- Decided to change the color of your existing floors...
Screen and Coat
Reilly Flooring also offers a process called screen and coat (or buff and coat). A screen and coat is a one day process where wood floors are lightly buffed and a fresh layer of finish applied. Screen and coat is more cost effective than sanding and refinishing but will not remove deep scratches, stains, or dents. We recommend this process for dull floors that are in good shape otherwise. Screen and coats should be done every couple of years to keep floors looking their best.
Selecting the Perfect Color
When it comes to choosing the perfect color for your floors, Reilly Flooring is an expert in assisting you. Reilly Flooring can create unique colors by mixing stain colors until we find the right match for your vision. Reilly Flooring has specialized experience in difficult hardwood stains, such as white, grey and black floors.
Protective Finish
For a final protective finish, our professionals will add the necessary coats of polyurethane, which is available with a water or oil base and comes in Satin, Semi-Gloss and High Gloss.
Water base polyurethane is a bit more dull as opposed to oil base but also has some advantages. One of the advantages of a water base polyurethane is its fast drying time. Water based polyurethane only requires approximately an hour for drying time, making it possible to install multiple coats in a shorter amount of time. Water based polyurethane also gives off less odor making it a good choice for families.
Oil base polyurethane is scratch and moisture resistant and works well in commercial or residential areas with high foot traffic. Two to three coats are usually applied using oil base with a 12 hour drying time in between coats. This type of urethane tends to develop into an amber like color as it ages.
